La vibration des couleurs | Mondriaan, Sluijters, Gestel

Luminist landscapes, sawmills and nudes: fellow artists Piet Mondriaan, Jan Sluijters and Leo Gestel each have a unique style, but share the role of innovator. The three met in Amsterdam, where they exhibited at the same artists’ associations. They regularly saw each other in Gestel’s studio in Jan Steenstraat. As a result, the young talents consciously or unconsciously influenced each other when creating new work. They enthusiastically experimented with light and colour, which resulted in innovative luminist paintings. The enchanting legacy of Mondriaan, Sluijters and Gestel will make anyone long for a warm, summer day. Discover how Amsterdam’s luminists changed modern art forever with their visionary outlook.
