Mondriaan is looking for Friends. For discussion, conviviality and support. From young to old, blonde to grey, rural to urban; everyone is welcome. As a Friend of Mondriaan, you become involved in our museum activities and make a vital contribution to special loans, restorations of masterpieces and the creation of our latest exhibitions.

Experience more as a Friend
Being a Friend of Mondriaan has its advantages! As a Friend, you have unlimited free admission, receive a discount on lectures and courses, are invited to exclusive guided tours and go on annual outings with all the Friends. There is something for everyone: for example, a painting workshop in the museum garden, the Mondriaan Cycle Route through the Achterhoek landscape or a visit to other museums.
“Why am I a Friend of museum Villa Mondriaan? Firstly, because I care about art and culture. Furthermore, I like the fact that through a relatively small museum you can pass on art to a wide audience. There is more than the Stedelijk and the Van Gogh Museum.
The Achterhoek has a lot to offer in terms of tourism, nature, geology and club life. Art also deserves a place here. A museum cannot do without Friends who support its objective. By being in contact with these Friends and taking fun excursions, we enjoy art together in our special coulisse landscape!”
Johan, Duo-Friend
During a Friends activity, the Friends of Mondriaan attended the opening of the exhibition Nocturnal. There they had the unique opportunity to be the first to view the exhibition together with Marie-José Jongerius and to talk with her about her work as a photographer.
In 2021, our Friends went on a Toorop excursion to Nijmegen. During this excursion they visited the Titus Brandsma Memorial, where the Apostle window designed by Toorop was on display, and attended a lecture by our junior curator Jet Sloterdijk on the artist’s life and oeuvre. The excursion concluded with the city walk Art on the Street, which took the Friends past the many art objects in the upper and lower city of Nijmegen.
In 2018, our Friends and our volunteers visited the Gemeentemuseum (now Kunstmuseum) in The Hague. Here they were given a tour of the exhibition Aan Zee (By the Sea) about painters who were intrigued by the Zeeland coast at the beginning of the 20th century. This featured work by Piet Mondrian, Jan Toorop, Ferdinand Hart Nibbrig and Jacoba van Heemskerck. In the afternoon, they visited museum Beelden aan Zee, located on Scheveningen beach, and which included work by the recently deceased painter and sculptor Armando.
With the many benefits, we thank our Friends for their support of our museum. Their contribution directly benefits Villa Mondriaan’s museum objectives. Recently our Friends contributed to:
- The special loan of the then unknown portrait of Betsy Bergman-Cavalini, created by Piet Mondriaan in 1901.
- The light object designed by Stang Gubbels and Job Rompa that illuminates the museum’s entrance.
