Paul Kooiker – Eggs and Rarities

Paul Kooiker (1964) incorporates many different subjects in his series Eggs and Rarities. The complex whole of subjects covers many photographic genres, but tells little about what is depicted. In its multitude, the series is an encyclopedia of life. Kooiker’s photos are sometimes recognizable and intimate, and sometimes abstract.

The photos seem to give the viewer an insight into the private life of Kooiker. At the same time, the photographer shows you banal subjects: an egg, a landscape, a comb, a shark. The viewer vaguely recognizes them by the photographic clichés that Paul Kooiker has released on them. The photos seem to have been adopted from tourist brochures, family photo albums or department stores catalogs. As the viewer, you decide the narrative by yourself.
