Atelier Mondriaan | Work in Progress

Villa Mondriaan transforms into a living studio for six artists.

This November, Museum Villa Mondriaan will open the doors of the historic villa for a special exhibition: Atelier Mondriaan | Work in Progress

From November 8, 2025, to May 3, 2026, the villa will temporarily become both a studio and an exhibition space. Six artists will work there, in alternating pairs, for two months at a time, in the very rooms where Piet Mondriaan took his first steps as an artist.

Instead of just seeing the end result, visitors will be able to witness the entire creative process: the initial sketches, experiments, doubts, and unexpected twists and turns will all be on display. Every two months, the villa will be transformed into a new, personal workspace, decorated according to the artists’ own tastes. This will create an environment that is constantly changing and always inviting discovery.

It is precisely this open structure that encourages encounters and dialogue. Visitors literally step into the studio and experience up close how ideas grow, choices are made, and art takes shape. It is a unique opportunity to not only be a spectator, but to be part of the creative process, a glimpse behind the scenes that normally remains hidden.

With Atelier Mondriaan, the museum shows that art is not just about the end result, but about the journey to get there. It creates a special bond between creator and audience, in which curiosity and exchange are central.
