Mondrian to Dutch Design

In 2017 we celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the ground-breaking art movement ‘De Stijl’. To honour this anniversary, the Netherlands Board of Tourism & Conventions (NBTC) and Dutch museums in 11 cities organize a year-round program dedicated to ‘Mondrian to Dutch Design’. This special route gives (inter)national tourists and art lovers a chance to learn more about the world-renowned Piet Mondriaan and his colleagues, showing contemporary Dutch Design as well. More information on this can be found on the website of NBTC.

Villa Mondriaan is proud partner of ‘Mondrian to Dutch Design’, and will focus both on the painter Mondriaan and the art forms he influenced, in the parental home of Mondriaan in Winterswijk. Besides the continuous exhibition of early paintings of Mondriaan, the new exhibition ‘Figuration in Style’ will open on 3 March 2017. This Hungarian artist was one of the founders of De Stijl. Thanks to our partnership with Gemeentemuseum The Hague, we can realize an exhibition with an overview of his work. At the same time, the Pavilion of Contemporary Art will show a special exhibition dedicated to young artists who were inspired by Mondriaan and his contemporaries.
