EIGENBEELDIG | Piet Mondriaan, Karel Appel, Philip Akkerman
This coming winter and spring, experience the exhibition EIGENBEELDIG, which focuses on self-imagination. You will have a unique opportunity to see how three diverse artists shape their public image. From Piet Mondriaan’s photo portraits to Karel Appel’s powerful brushstrokes and Philip Akkerman’s colourful self-portraits; all these interpret the theme of self-imagination in their own way. After all, the creation of images and self-reflection are universal themes that range from literal reflections to deeper discoveries about our own identity. Using paintings, photographs, letters and diaries, this exhibition offers a view of how Mondriaan, Appel and Akkerman present themselves and their art. Museum Villa Mondriaan invites you to reflect on the complex relationship between art and self-representation. EIGENBEELDIG thus poses the stimulating questions: what role does image-making play in the work of these artists, and how do they want to be seen by the outside world?
